Introducing Dr. David Nygaard

My life started at age 47!

Well maybe not, but my married life did. Before that one of my first loves was the profession of Chiropractic.

I have always marched to my own drummer, and by junior high school I knew that  I wanted to be a physician. By the age of 23, I completed the prerequisites to enter chiropractic school. However, I revised my  goals and chose to follow another path. I earned  2 Masters Degrees, traveled around the world and worked in Community Mental Health and private business as a consultant.

While I enjoyed helping others, the work did not completely speak to my heart. I revisited my original childhood dreams, entered chiropractic school, and graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic at age 40.

I have always been inspired by our bodies inborn abilities to heal and became inspired by what I learned in chiropractic school. Upon graduation, I was blessed to find a mentor, Dr Roy Sweat, the founder and developer of Atlas Orthogonal. I worked with Dr Sweat and he was most generous in sharing the secrets and wisdom he had mastered in his 40+ years as a chiropractor.

Not only did I develop a passion for the Atlas Orthogonal approach, I learned that I also loved the south. I certainly did not miss the winters of my home state, Wisconsin. I was soon drawn to the mountains of Western North Carolina and found my geographical heart in Asheville. I started my own Atlas Orthogonal practice in the Westgate Shopping Center Courtyard. I have been blessed with amazing patients and friends since.

Then at age 47 and seemingly by magic, I met my wife, Barbara Marlowe. Barbara is an amazing woman who moved from Boston to marry me. Though she doesn't work at the practice, her love is an ongoing part of establishing the healing energy and atmosphere of the office.

My life is full, the profession of chiropractic has been more rewarding than I could have ever imagined. Barbara and I have made a 20 minute educational video about our practice.
